When you're shooting a car film that demands speed, visual impact, and high-level coordination, the biggest challenge isn't just “how to make it look good” — it’s how to keep every team member fully connected, efficient, and in sync in a fast-moving, unpredictable environment.
This was exactly the situation faced by videographer-director Mu Youfeng and his five-person team during a Porsche-themed short film shoot in December 2024.
Their key solution? The WiTalk9 SE full-duplex wireless intercom system, which played a critical role in helping them rise to the challenge.
“Our team was split between two cars — one shooting, the other being shot — often at a distance and moving fast. Real-time, efficient communication was not optional, it was essential,” says Mu.
Phones and walkie-talkies might sound like obvious choices. But in a setting where everyone’s hands are busy — driving, flying a drone, operating a camera — those tools become more of a liability than a help.
“You simply can’t reach for a device mid-shoot without risking safety or missing a shot. Every second counts, and any delay could mean losing a key moment,” Mu explains.
To highlight the Porsche’s high performance, the team chose a winding mountain road in China’s Sichuan province. The location was visually stunning, but the environment posed major risks: signal obstructions, unpredictable weather, and unstable road conditions could easily throw off the production.
But WiTalk9 SE delivered.
“What we worried about most was poor signal due to the mountains. But in reality, everything stayed crystal clear — even when the drone pilot and driver were far apart, we had real-time voice transmission without delay,” says Mu.
Later in the afternoon, rain began to fall — just as they were racing to finish the shoot before nightfall. Despite the damp conditions and equipment being exposed to the rain, the headsets performed flawlessly.
“Our cameraman was out there in the rain with the headset getting wet. We thought it might affect the signal, but it didn’t. No dropouts, no glitches — just solid, uninterrupted comms,” says Mu.
What impressed Mu the most about the system was how seamlessly it supported the shoot. It felt invisible, yet ever-present — like an unspoken link between team members that didn’t interfere with their actions.
“We were literally chasing each other through the mountains. Every moment was fast-paced and intense. WiTalk9 SE allowed us to communicate clearly in real-time, without ever needing to reach for anything or break focus. That level of hands-free coordination gave us peace of mind, safety, and creative freedom.”
In high-stakes filmmaking, professional tools aren’t just about features — they’re about enabling creators to focus on the art without worrying about the process. And WiTalk9 SE proved to be the silent teammate that never let them down.
