WiTalk9's No-failure Performance at a Brazilian Music Festival

At a Brazilian music festival with 15,000 attendees, filmmaker Elias Junior and his team used the WiTalk9 wireless intercom system to manage communications during the live event. Spanning 4 days and featuring top Brazilian artists, the festival posed significant challenges, but WiTalk9 met the demands. From battery life lasting five days to maintaining clear communication in noisy conditions, the system played an essential role in helping the professional team stay coordinated throughout the event.
The Event and Challenges
The music festival occurred in São Sebastião do Anta MG, an inland city in southeastern Brazil. Featuring big names like Naiara Azevedo, Alemão do forró, Matheus & Kauan, and Relber & Allan, the live event spanned 4 days from August 20 to 23, 2024.
"The place was 1000 square meters and on the day I was working, there were 15,000 people on-site," said Elias the filmmaker.
Responsible for transmitting the video to the LED panel and broadcasting the event live, Elias and his team had to face pressures from all sides — managing real-time synchronization between the live feed and LED screens, coping with last-minute changes, troubleshooting technical issues (if there was any), and communicating vital messages across the excited crowd and over the loudspeakers.
"3 of us were in the center of the event, 2 on the side, 1 on the stage, and 1 in front of the stage," said Elias about how their team was distributed then.
(From left to right: Behind the crowd, on stage, and stage direction.)
To keep the team on the same page throughout the event, FR Produções relied on the WiTalk9 wireless intercom headset system.
How WiTalk9 Helped?
Operating on dual antennas (one built-in and one external), the intercom system is designed to get messages across with stronger signal coverage. In an event where broadcasting devices and thousands of smartphones are present, the enhanced signal coverage cut through the clutter and did not let the team down.
"There was no failure in the WiTalk9 intercom communication," said Elias of the performance.
With the agitated crowd who cheered at the presence of their beloved singers and sang along with the rest of the venue, anyone could find it challenging to get themselves heard over the noise should they use conventional walkie-talkies.
Engineered with ClearTalk™, a trademarked technology by Saramonic that features a three-mic array and a noise cancellation algorithm, WiTalk9 cancels noise at 360°. With the AGC or Automatic Gain Control, the intercom headset automatically increases or decreases the microphone gain to keep the team talk's intelligibility and volume consistent — whether the team raised their volume intuitively over the excited crowd or spoke at a normal volume when he's further away from the stage.
"A top experience for communicating with the team where we heard everything with excellent quality even with the sound very loud," commented Elias on the clear talks.
Battery life matters as a live event may go on for hours. A dead battery in the middle of a live show may suspend communication and jeopardize the whole team's efforts.
"(The) batteries lasted 5 days," said Elias.
"Did you use them for 5 days without charging and just swapped the batteries once?"
"Yes," confirmed Elias in a WhatsApp conversation.
WiTalk9 comes with 2 batteries for each headset and is engineered to go long with 9 hours of battery life for the master and 15 for the remote. Additionally, the 10-slot charging dock can charge 10 batteries at the same time, helping teams to better manage charging efforts with the "one-dock" solution.
The Availability of WiTalk9 and WiTalk9 SE
WiTalk9 comes in packages ranging from 2 to 9 headsets and WiTalk9 SE 2 to 5.
For large teams (9 or more) that need to communicate over large crowds, cluttered signals, or long distances, WiTalk9 is the ideal solution.
For smaller teams (5 to 9 people) operating in open outdoor spaces or in indoor environments with few individuals, WiTalk9 SE is recommended.
